Author Guidelines

Authors are requested to follow these guidelines carefully before submitting their manuscripts to the Journal of Medical, Surgical and Clinical Case Studies. Adhering to the journal’s submission and formatting requirements will help ensure a smooth and timely review process. All manuscripts should reflect high standards of ethical conduct, scientific accuracy, and clinical relevance.

1. Manuscript Submission

Submissions must be made through the journal’s online submission system. Authors should ensure that the manuscript is complete, including all required components, and that it complies with the formatting instructions outlined below. All manuscripts must be submitted in English.

2. Manuscript Categories

The journal accepts the following types of submissions:

  • Case Reports
  • Case Series
  • Clinical Studies
  • Surgical Case Studies
  • Case-Based Reviews
  • Diagnostic Dilemmas
  • Short Communications
  • Visual Case Presentations

Authors must clearly identify the type of submission at the time of manuscript submission.

3. Formatting Requirements

  • File format: Submit manuscripts as editable Word documents (.doc or .docx).
  • Font and spacing: Use 12-point Times New Roman, double-spaced throughout.
  • Page numbers: Number all pages consecutively at the bottom.
  • Line numbers: Optional but helpful for peer review.
  • Word count: Should not exceed 5000 words for full-length submissions. Brief reports may be shorter, depending on content.

4. Manuscript Structure

Submissions should be organized using the following sections, where applicable:

  • Title Page: Title of the manuscript, full names of all authors, affiliations, corresponding author’s email address.
  • Abstract: A structured or unstructured summary not exceeding 250 words.
  • Keywords: Provide 4 to 6 keywords relevant to the content.
  • Introduction: Brief context and rationale for presenting the case.
  • Case Presentation: Detailed clinical information, diagnostic work-up, and treatment course.
  • Discussion: Interpretation, comparison with existing literature, and clinical implications.
  • Conclusion: Key takeaways or learning points from the case.
  • Declarations: Ethics approval, consent to participate, consent for publication, conflicts of interest, funding, and author contributions.
  • References: Cited using APA style.

Figures, tables, and supplementary materials should be placed at the end of the document or uploaded separately if required.

5. Authorship Criteria

All listed authors should meet the ICMJE (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors) authorship criteria, which include substantial contributions to the conception or design, drafting or revising the work critically, final approval of the version to be published, and agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work.

6. Ethical Considerations

All case reports must be written with due respect to patient privacy and must not contain identifying information. Authors must confirm that informed consent was obtained from the patient or their legal guardian for publication. If the patient is deceased or lost to follow-up, authors should seek appropriate approval from the institution or ethics board and provide documentation where available.

Manuscripts must comply with the ethical standards of the Helsinki Declaration and any applicable institutional review boards or ethics committees.

7. Conflict of Interest and Funding Disclosure

Authors must declare any potential conflicts of interest. This includes financial relationships, affiliations, personal relationships, or intellectual beliefs that could influence the work. Sources of funding, if any, must also be disclosed in the Declarations section of the manuscript.

8. Figures and Tables

  • All figures and tables should be clearly numbered and titled.
  • Captions must be provided for each figure and table.
  • High-resolution images (minimum 300 dpi) must be used for clinical photographs, radiology images, or histopathological slides.
  • If reusing previously published materials, authors must obtain and provide written permission from the copyright holder.

9. References

All references should be cited in-text and listed at the end in APA format. Authors are responsible for ensuring that references are accurate and complete. Only published or accepted articles should be included in the reference list.

10. Article Processing Charges (APC)

To support open-access publishing and maintain high editorial and production standards, the journal levies a modest Article Processing Charge upon acceptance of the manuscript. The APC covers peer review management, journal hosting, professional copyediting, layout, long-term archiving, and indexing.

Authors will be notified of the applicable APC after acceptance. Waivers or discounts may be granted in select cases, especially for authors from low-income countries or institutions. No charges are applied at the time of submission.

11. Review and Publication Process

Once submitted, manuscripts will undergo an initial editorial screening to ensure relevance and completeness. Suitable submissions will be sent for peer review. Authors can expect timely feedback and, where necessary, requests for revision.

Upon acceptance, articles are copyedited and published online with a DOI. All published content is open access and freely accessible to readers worldwide.

12. Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain the copyright of their work. By submitting to the journal, authors agree to publish under a Creative Commons license, typically CC BY, which allows unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction provided the original work is properly cited.
